Join us as we worship the Lord and continue our journey through John. At the end of John 3 we learn of how the ministries of John the Baptist and Jesus were working in tandem for a season. Ultimately, the crowds began to flock to Jesus. John the Baptist beamed with joy at his dwindling ministry. His work was complete! All Christians should have the same posture of this greatest prophet until the time of Christ. To desire to see Christ INCREASE and ourselves recede into the background.
🙌 When we are 'in Christ' we are in the One who has taken away our sin and gifted us His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). When we are 'in Christ' we are in the One who has come not to condemn us, but to save us (John 3:17). A Savior has been born (Luke 2:11). We need to look to the Lamb (John 1:29). We need to look to Him like the Israelites looked to the bronze serpent on the pole (John 3:14; Numbers 21:8-9). He wants to bring us into new creation life! (2 Corinthians 5:17) We simply need to BELIEVE (John 3:16). That's all He wants (John 6:29). Faith! To receive the forgiveness of sins (Acts 26:18). To receive the abundance of grace and gift of righteousness (Romans 5:17). God told Abraham, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you" (Gen. 22:2).Of course, God did not actually want Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. And He, of course, stops Abraham from sacrificing him. But God wanted this act to be a picture of what He would one day do to save the world. God Himself would give His only begotten Son (John 3:16). Jesus would also climb Mt Moriah carrying wood for the sacrifice just like Isaac did! 🌟 "No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven." John 3:13 🌟 “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” John 1:18 Notice the present tense. The Son IS in the bosom of the Father even after He was the Word who was made flesh. This dual residency of Christ in His ministry in some ways is a picture now of humanity who has been recreated in Him. Those in Christ have a dual residency, in Heaven and on Earth. We are seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). We are citizens of the kingdom of God (Philippians 3:20). Just as Jesus was in the bosom of the Father, so we have been brought there with Him. Of, course, Jesus resides in the Father’s bosom in a unique sense as the Eternal Son, but also have been brought there by grace. Just as Ezekiel prophesied to dry bones that came alive, we need more than self-improvement—we need complete spiritual rebirth! Our natural state isn't just broken, it's spiritually dead. Jesus’s first long discourse is about the necessity of being born again. This is the first theological message Jesus wants Nicodemus to digest, and it is the first message John wants the readers of his gospel to digest as well. Before we can swim in the depths of the rest of Christian doctrine, we must really come to grips with this central theological truth. That before we can move forward in the life of faith, we MUST be born again! In His first long discourse in the Gospel of John Jesus speaks of the absolute necessity of being ‘born again’. In fact, stresses the importance of being ‘born again’ three times (John 3:3, 5, 7). This powerful teaching in the middle of the night to the great leader of the Jews, Nicodemus, is filled with dynamic lessons concerning the cross, the Spirit, and the gigantic love of God! Whatever the reason may be for his nighttime visit, I find it beautiful that Jesus receives Him. Talk about being a gracious Host! Jesus would likely have spent that day in a long time of ministry. I’m sure that He was tired after all of His strenuous prophetic demonstrations. Yet, He still willing received Nicodemus! This is simply who Jesus is. He is always accessible to those who are seeking Him. The Bible says, “You will seek Me, and you will find Me.” Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And this posture of Jesus of being a gracious Host has never changed. He hears our requests even in our midnight hour, and He receives us for a conversation.
